Teamwork saves the day!

Updated: Jun 10

Just like on game shows, even shuttle companies need to call a friend at times.

On morning, Saturday, May 31 , an older gentleman I'll call Bill, had an urgency in his voice. He was at "Down by the River" campground in Pineola, NC. He was desperate to get home. His wife was in the hospital after a fall at home in Georgia and broke her hip in three places.

I called Michele who operates High Country Shuttle Services and together were able to reserve and confirm a rental car in Hickory. Michele lives in Banner Elk and had time to pick him up and get him to Enterprise in Hickory. She delivered him in time before they closed at 2:00 that day and he was on his way.

There have even been times when James at Ashe County Livery, Michele and I teamed up to retrieve a tourist, stranded at a local resort, with no public transportation available. One way or the other, we get people where they want to go.

Winter weather on Beech Mountain often requires coordination, especially when tourists get caught with only a front wheel drive car on curvy mountain roads and bad weather. I've learned to keep tire chains in the back of my AWD Acura for winter driving.

This tag team effort is not unusual here in the High Country. Sometimes, there are simply more people that need rides than there are reputable companies available.

We will do our best to help get you where you need to go. That may be a referral to another company, or suggestions about alternatives, such as Hickory Hop, Sunway Bus Service or even a car rental.
